☁『TP of SAM』☁ asked:

I guess I don’t understand the SOPA act entirely. I get some of the basics and stuff. However, what will happen to torrent sites and other downloaders like LimeWire? Will they be destroyed? And what happens to sites like Photobucket where ther are tones of ripped off copy-righted photos and videos posted. Or even YouTube has a bunch of ripped movies.

So what happens to them?

  • What sort of consequences will happen if the SOPA bill passes?
  • If the sopa law hasn’t been comfirmed yet, How come they are already taking down websites?
  • Can the effects of SOPA and PIPA spread to other countries?

  • What are the facts and the myths behind SOPA and PIPA?
  • Do we have any statistics about what percentage of congress is for/against SOPA?

I don’t think much will happen to sites like Photobucket or YouTube. As for torrent sites, if you had the Tixati client you would hardly even need them. Tixati has Decentralized Sharing Channels that allow you to share magnet links, weblinks and more and it can’t be taken down. Once something is shared, it’s shared. No government can come and take your stuff down.

The writers of SOPA and PIPA freely admit that they are basing their law on the same Internet Censorship Laws and Technology used in Communist China to censor internet content. It is overt censorship of the internet.

    ✖ Who’s opposed to SOPA?
Much of the Internet industry and a large percentage of Internet users. Here’s the most current list (PDF) of opponents.

✖ Congress is considering two well-intentioned but deeply flawed bills, the PROTECT-IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

Here’s the issue with SOPA. Torrent sites will be fine..A lot of them are based out of the US. The US government can’t do anything about sites that are out of US soil. Youtube, Facebook, Google, Twitter and so on…..can be taken down. They’d be taken down because people can link to torrent sites like Facebook, Google, Youube.
