A disabled military veteran can apply for the monetary benefits received as a part of the federal government's veteran's disability benefits program. He has to start by filing the veteran's application for compensation or pension. This includes him filling out the VA Form 21-526. Apart from the application the veteran also has to attach some other documents with the application. The first document is a dependency record that includes a marriage certificate and children's birth certificates. Another document to be attached is 'medical evidence' which could be a certificate from the doctor or hospital report.
