Many craft stores are now stocking their shelves with hand spun yarn. Much of this yarn is crafted locally. Hand spun yarn can be made from a variety of materials… including human hair. The yarn is usually sold on consignment. For this reason, the laws and regulations that apply to yarn companies do not apply to the yarn made by local crafters. Therefore, the yarn does not require a label. Often, the materials used to make the yarn are not known to the associates at the craft store or the consumer that purchases the yarn. Because human hair is sometimes used, there is a chance that lice may be burrowing in the yarn.
