The healthcare industry has just recently over the last couple of years made it mandatory for all medical offices, hospitals, and medical facilities to go paperless. This means that they must file their claims electronically instead of through paper mailing. This has happened due to the new laws in the HIPAA standard that protects patients and their medical records. Having medical billing software helps these medical facilities to solve the problem of the electronic billing because getting set up with the software helps to get set up with EDI which is electronic data interchange. Filing claims electronically is so much more efficient then paper claims anyway.
